This New Years Eve there’s of course plenty to do as there always is – why not hit the Quasimodo for some Blues, funk, RnB and soul – with none other than New York’s Mike Russell, who’s been funking it up since the late 80s in Berlin – before that he was active in the NY funk scene, signed to Columbia Records, enjoying hits with Gloria Taylor – which had the two nominated for a Grammy award – as well as playing in bands including playing for such luminaries as Michael Jackson, The Weather Girls, Donna Summer, Donald Byrd & The Blackbirds, Patti LaBelle, Eddie Harris, Rick Derringer and a host of others.
Silvester / NYE 2017 sees Mike Russell invite a bunch of the finest funk musicians in Berlin to put on a party to end all parties in Quasimodo – first set is Mike Russels Funky Soul Kitchen – second set is his other project Black Heritage, featuring the mighty MFA Kera on vocals, the amazing singer out of Senegal: of Creole extraction KERA was born in Madagascar and grew up in Senegal. After moving to Paris, she began her professional career singing the Blues and Gospel with Memphis Slim and working with such luminaries as Mickey Baker, John Lee Hooker and Milton Buckner. She was invited to sing in the Film “The Adventure Of Jazz” which top billing were Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Lionel Hampton and George Benson.
And to top the night off, Jan Feuerwerk gives us his typically over-the-top firework spectacle from the terrace of the club….
